St. Lucia is a lush tropical island adorned with pristine sugar sand beaches and exotic black sand beaches. More and more vacationers are drawn to this little Caribbean hideaway, whose charm lies in its friendly atmosphere and its stunning seaside scenery.

All of the beaches on St. Lucia are public. A number of beachfront hotels and resorts are located on the north shores of the island. No matter where you're staying on the northern portion of the island, which tapers to a point, you'll be close to fine diving. However, those staying on the northeastern side will experience harsher waves coming from the Atlantic, and will need to cross to the northwest for diving opportunities at the beaches.

The secluded stretches of white sand beaches on the west coast near the southern portion of Marigot Bay can only be reached by watercraft and are popular spots for tourists in charter boats, catamarans, and powerboats. However, the beach itself is known for its calm waters and beautiful scenery both on-land and odd. This quiet side of the island is facing the Caribbean rather than the Atlantic.

The beaches along St. Lucia's east coast, or windward side, face the Atlantic Ocean. The choppy waves of the Atlantic here aren't suitable for swimming, but are great for gazing at spectacular ocean views. However, this side of the island is less densely populated, and travelers will often have a bit more space to themselves. Therefore, those who want to simply sunbathe may find just what they're looking for on this side of the island, where the beaches are quieter than the waters.

St. Lucia has plenty of beautiful beaches, including its uniquely stunning black sand beaches. The island's volcanic past has given it a touch of something different with the black, volcanic sands that line its shores, sometimes combining with the white sand, like at Anse Couchon, in strand and wave patterns.

Sun-worshiping vacationers will discover that this Caribbean vacation spot is a little piece of heaven on earth. And those looking for a bit of adventure will have plenty to enjoy outside of these sands as well.
