Presently, there are no casinos located on the Eastern Caribbean Island of St. Lucia, but the first one is under construction and is scheduled to open in December of 2006. If you're planning to vacation on this gorgeous tropical paradise in the near future, you can make great gambling action a part of your island getaway.
Gambling on St. Lucia has faced much opposition, and it is illegal for citizens of the country to gamble or enter a casino. The 39th Clause of St. Lucia states that residents and citizens of the island may not “either personally or through an agent be permitted to place wagers or collect winnings from a game approved by the Board." Past propositions of building a casino on the island have been heavily debated by religious leaders and the St. Lucia Labor Party.
In recent years the St. Lucia Labor Party changed its position on having a casino in the country. Island officials hope to enhance the vitality St. Lucia's tourism industry by drawing more vacationers to the island with the construction of a glamorous 15,000 square-foot casino. The tourism industry has been increasing dramatically in recent years and is a very important part of St. Lucia's economy, which will benefit from the addition of a new casino.
Scheduled to open its doors in December 2006, the Treasure Bay casino will be located in Gros Isle near Pigeon Island, approximately 10 miles north of Castries, St. Lucia's capital. The casino will feature 350 slot machines and 14 game tables. Vacationers will have the opportunity to try their hand at several card games, as well as have the chance to win big at the slots.
After its completion, the Treasure Bay casino will be an exciting addition for tourists on St. Lucia. Although residents of the island won't be allowed to enter the casino, visitors will be able to enjoy exciting gaming action as part of their tropical retreat.
